The Feedback Loop

“if you cant measure it you can’t improve it”

I would add “if you don’t check your measurements and take action nothing gets better”

One thing I am very aware of it that I am still learning. As things are always changing, I don’t expect that to stop.

All the courses in the world aren’t going to be as good as taking action and measuring the results. Then adjusting course accordingly.

Apart from tracking expenditure and income, the main tracking is in seeing indicators of progression to the goal of income.

Before the site creates income it has traffic before that it has rankings. So I am keen to track those.

Rankings

For the initial 1 article and 5 article sites I am initially tracking their ranking in market samurai. So I can quickly track deep into the SERPS about 300 places to see early sites of life.

Once the site is more developed I plan to use rank tracking with one project per site. Unless the secockpit guys come up with a ranking tracking addition to their wonderful tool.

The main issue with rank tracking from your pc is time and the temporary bans that google issue. It can be a painful process even with paid proxies in the mix.

Traffic

I will have google analytics running on my sites. I am developing some in house reporting tools that grab the analytics and Adsense data for all my sites and present it quickly in a table. So far the google analytics process can be a little slow. I have looked at the new dashboards and some of the dashboard software but not done enough research yet.

General monitoring

I am concerned that looking after so many sites at different stages is going to be beyond a simple spreadsheet and may look at creating my own database program to manage it all. We will see.

Other data points

Another thing I do is to screen capture the competition analysis from secockpit when I start. I may also collect the actual google SERPS with the seo quake plugin running and the competition analysis from market samurai. However my keyword analysis will come from secockpit combined with the actual SERPS check. I will ignore market samurai until my post mortem of rankings.

My first questions to answer

Being new to this the first questions I have are how quick will I see any ranking in the top 300. Then how long do I expect a top or medium performer to take. How long do I give a loser?

Initially I am going to work to a 3 month major review but I’ll be thinking about each site every 1-2 weeks and any action I want to take.

Measuring your progress is very vital aspect of your success ladder. If you don’t have the time to see back and measure “How much you have proceed?” then possibly you are just running towards a target without knowing how far is it and whether you are in right direction or has been diverted in course of time.

So, while trying to achieve blogging success, everyone should spend some time measuring important factors like present ranking, traffic conversion and other important aspects.
